Energy
The answer is all around us
North America is a bountiful continent, well known for its natural resources, of which we can count among them abundant wind and sunshine. We are sitting on huge amounts of renewable-energy potential. ACCIONA Energy is leading the charge to tap into our resources and create renewable energy to run our homes, businesses, even transportation—the power that runs our daily lives.
While ACCIONA Energy has focused on wind and solar energy in North America, we have global experience and interest in introducing other modernized renewable energy technologies into the North American market. Wind energy, solar energy, biomass, hydropower and biofuels are all technologies that ACCIONA has developed worldwide. As leaders and innovators, we keep our eyes on the future with a commitment to invest in new technologies for a cleaner, sustainable future.
Following our Develop-Build-Operate business model, ACCIONA contributes to the complete value chain of wind energy creation for superior performance and shareholder value. From development, design, manufacturing and installation of wind turbines to operating and maintaining wind farms, ACCIONA takes the lead.
Globally, ACCIONA is ranked among the leading wind-power developers and wind-turbine manufacturers, with more than 7,500 MW installed. We are positioning ourselves to lead in these areas in the North American market as well.
ACCIONA has ownership in seven operational wind farms in North America, totaling 525 megawatts (MW). ACCIONA’s most recent wind farm, EcoGrove Wind Farm, began production in Summer 2009. Located in Stephenson County near Lena, IL, EcoGrove Wind Farm can produce 100.5 MW of energy to power more than 25,000 U.S. homes.
ACCIONA has an aggressive development pipeline throughout North America, which includes wind projects in the upper-Midwest, the Southwest and along the East and West coasts of the United States, along with projects in the Canadian Maritimes and central Canada regions. Practically every corner of the continent has the potential for wind energy—and where that potential exists, you’ll find ACCIONA.
Every day, America’s sun-drenched Southwest has the potential to produce thousands of megawatts of energy by utilizing the profound power of the sun to create electricity. Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), a technology that uses thousands of mirrors to concentrate the sun’s rays onto a solar receiver, provides clean, reliable and cost-efficient renewable energy, and ACCIONA is the pioneering explorer of this vast reserve.
ACCIONA Solar Power, Inc., is a majority-owned joint venture of ACCIONA Energy that develops, owns and operates CSP plants. ACCIONA Solar Power designed, developed, built and now operates ACCIONA’s Nevada Solar One. Nevada Solar One is the first CSP plant to be built in the last 17 years and the third largest in the world. It is a 64 MW plant with the capacity to create electricity equivalent to the needs of approximately 14,000 homes annually.
On a global basis, ACCIONA is involved in CSP and solar-photovoltaic technologies on a utility-scale. We also provide solar hot water technologies as energy-efficient solutions for buildings and other large facilities.
